• Blog – What do you make of the Duke and the King? Is it wise for Huck and Jim to go along with them?

To me, the duke and the king are full of themselves. It is all about them. However, Huck did think to himself “these liars warn’t no kings nor dukes, at all, but just low-down humbugs and frauds.” (Pg. 183) He did not mention this to other people, but rather just kept it to himself. Huck decided to do this so not to cause any trouble. So I think that it was fine for them to go along with the Duke and King.

i agree with what u said, but why wouldn't Huck say anything to jim about these two men being fake. to me it is because he is still trying to do the right thing. this time he takes his fathers point of view and just lets it go because it is better to not make trouble with the people that u spend a lot of time with.

I also agree with what you say about Duke and King being fakes. But i feel the same as Erik when he said that he wondered why Huck didn't tell Jim anything. But i feel it was to not cause trouble like you have also said.
